COOKIES POLICY

This Cookie Policy is intended to inform how Almada Fitness Center uses technology called “cookies” and server-side tagging. It is also intended to help you make informed decisions when using our website, so please take a minute to read and understand the content which should also be read in conjunction with our Privacy Policy.

What is a Cookie?

A cookie, also known as a browser cookie, is a text file containing small amounts of information that a server can download to your computer, mobile phone or tablet when you visit a website or use an application.

There are different types of cookies that are used to do different things, such as enabling you to navigate between different pages on a website efficiently, remembering preferences you have provided and helping us identify ways to improve your overall website experience. Others are used to provide advertising that is more tailored to your interests or to measure site visits and the most popular pages users visit.

What is server-side tagging?

Server-side tagging works differently from cookies in that it operates on the server side and not in a browser, so no data is downloaded to your device. This technology uses non-identifiable click events to provide cookie-like functionality and improve your overall user experience. The use of server-side tagging can be managed along with your cookie preferences.

‘First party’ and ‘third party’ cookies

Each type of cookie can be set and controlled by the operator of the website the user is browsing, such as Almada Fitness Center (known as a ‘first party cookie’) or a third party such as Facebook, for example, to display ads and features sharing, (known as a ‘third party cookie’).

Due to their primary role in improving and enabling usability or website processes, disabling certain cookies may prevent you from using certain aspects of the Almada Fitness Center website.

Generally speaking, there are two different types of browser cookies:

(1) Session cookies are stored in the user’s computer memory during the user’s browsing session and are automatically deleted from the user’s computer when the browser is closed or the session is considered closed.

These cookies generally store a session ID that is not personally identifiable to the user. They allow the user to go from page to page on the website without requiring the user to log in repeatedly. They are widely used by commercial websites; for example, to keep track of items a shopper has added to a shopping basket.

Session cookies do not collect any information from the user’s computer and expire at the end of the user’s browser session. They can also become inaccessible after the session has been idle for a specified period of time, usually 20 or 30 minutes.

(2) Persistent cookies are stored on the user’s computer and are not deleted when the browser is closed. Persistent cookies can be used to retain user preferences for a particular website, allowing those preferences to be used in future browsing sessions.

Persistent cookies usually assign a unique ID to the user’s browser and are usually set to identify a user for an extended period of time, from days to months or even years.

How does Almada Fitness Center use cookies?

Almada Fitness Center only uses browser cookies to measure non-personal information, for example to learn about visitor behavior on our website and how they respond to our marketing communications. The more we learn, the better we are able to deliver relevant and interesting content and services. First-person cookies set by Almada Fitness Center do not contain any personally identifiable information.

Strictly necessary cookies

‘Strictly necessary’ cookies allow you to navigate the site and use essential features. These cookies do not collect any information about you that could be used for marketing or to remember where you have been on the internet. The acceptance of these cookies is a condition of using the website, as they are necessary for the proper functioning of the website.

Analysis cookies / performance cookies

These cookies remember your choices to improve your experience. By using the website, you agree that we can place these types of cookies on your device.

These cookies allow the website to remember choices you make (such as your username, language or the region you are in) and provide enhanced, more personal features. These cookies may also be used to remember changes you make to text size, fonts and other parts of web pages that you can customize. They may also be used to provide services you have requested, such as watching a video or commenting on a blog. The information these cookies collect is anonymous and cannot track your browsing activity on other websites.

Advertising / targeting cookies

Occasionally, cookies are used to collect information about your browsing habits in order to show advertisements that are more relevant to you and your interests. They are also used to limit the number of times you see an ad, as well as help measure the effectiveness of the ad campaign.

Cookies are often placed directly by third-party advertising networks. They remember that you visited a website and that information is shared with other organizations such as advertisers. Often, targeting or advertising cookies will be linked to website functionality provided by the other organization.

However, this policy does not cover the use of third-party cookies. This will be covered by that third party’s privacy policies and practices and we recommend that you read these, in most cases you will find them on that same company’s website.

How can you control the use of cookies?

If you do not want the Almada Fitness Center website to set cookies on your computer or device, you must not use the website or you must delete Almada Fitness Center cookies after visiting the website. Alternatively, you should browse the site using your browser’s anonymous usage setting (called “Incognito” in Chrome, “InPrivate” in Internet Explorer, “Private Browsing” in Firefox and Safari).

Alternatively, the ‘Help’ menu in the menu bar of most browsers will tell you how to stop your browser from accepting new cookies; how to make the browser notify you when it receives a new cookie and how to disable cookies completely. However, as cookies allow you to take advantage of some of the website’s essential features, we recommend that you leave them enabled.

A guide to behavioral advertising and online privacy has been produced by the internet advertising industry, which can be found at www.youronlinechoices.eu. The guide contains an explanation of the IAB’s self-regulatory scheme to allow you greater control over the advertising you see.
